Why do I need a Google account?
A Google account is required to set up the phone and link it to your parental controls. It also lets you access the Manage Portal and use features like app controls, filters, and notifications.
Can my child use their own Google account?
Yes, but we recommend linking the device with a parent-managed account through Family Link. This ensures you keep control of app downloads, content restrictions, and other safety settings.
Can I use my existing Google account?
Yes. You can use an existing account if you prefer, or create a new one just for managing the device. Many parents create a separate account specifically for SafetyMode.
What happens if I don’t link a Google account?
The phone will still turn on, but you won’t be able to activate some SafetyMode, most notably the remote management.
Can I change the Google account later?
Yes. You can reset the phone and sign in with a different account. Keep in mind this will remove all previous data from the device.
Is my Google account information secure?
Yes. All account details are encrypted, and only you (with your login credentials) can manage or make changes through the Manage Portal.
